Autumn 2009 - seeds for sale

We have a small quantity of home-grown seeds for sale this autumn. All seeds offered are garden-grown - none are wild-collected - and we are not retailing any commercially-supplied seeds. These seeds are only available to buyers in the United Kingdom.

Spartium junceum - Spanish broom

This hardy, broom-like shrub grows quickly to 2-3m, and its green, rush-like stems make it appear partly evergreen. RHS Award of Garden Merit, 1993.

The large, fragrant, bright yellow pea-flowers appear in June and continue through to August. There may be a second flowering in autumn.

Usually longer-lived than the common broom (Cytisus scoparius), and more amenable to pruning if necessary.

Prefers a light to medium, sandy to alkaline soil, in an open sunny position. It is tolerant of part shade, but will tend to grow taller and leggier there. A good plant for coastal exposure, and dry areas.

Sow the seeds in situ in the autumn, or sow individually in pots and then transplant out the following autumn. Be careful when transplanting to avoid root disturbance.

Fifty seeds in this packet.

£1.49, includes UK postage. This item is available for UK customers only.
