Autumn 2009 - seeds for sale

We have a small quantity of home-grown seeds for sale this autumn. All seeds offered are garden-grown - none are wild-collected - and we are not retailing any commercially-supplied seeds. These seeds are only available to buyers in the United Kingdom.

Lupinus pilosus - Blue lupin

Norfolk-grown seeds, collected autumn 2009.

This 30-40cm high annual lupin is very different from the tall cultivated perennial species.

The 8-15cm flower spikes produce large, deep-blue flowers, followed by broad, hairy seed pods. The attractive seeds are large, bean-sized.

Sow the seeds in situ, in the autumn in milder areas, or in spring in colder areas. The seeds germinate quickly and autumn-sown plants may flower right through a mild winter (photo 1 was taken 8 December 2006, in Norfolk). You can sow in a pot, but be careful of root-disturbance when transplanting.

The plants do best in a light to medium soil, that is never waterlogged.

The plants that have produced these seeds are several generations on from seed collected in the Greek island of Sifnos.

10 seeds in this packet.
