Kalymnos walk book - updates

Walks in Kalymnos - updates & corrections 2008 - 2011

January 2011

Pothia to the Vathy valley to Kyra Psili to Arginonda
Walks 11 and 12
The new Vathy-Arginonda road has now been connected at both ends.

Walk 9, page 19 final paragraph
For "join the main left-right dirt road", read "join the main left-right asphalt road"

Walk 14a
According to the official Kalymnos website, the Kefala cave is now open to visitors daily, except Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 08:30-14:00. The admission fee is €2, and helmets and headlights are provided by the keeper.

June 2008.

Bob Sykes
advised me of some important changes to the book.

Walk 13
The Pothia-Rina-Pothia bus now turns around at the Rina supermarket, not the seafront square (from where it is out of sight) - and on one occasion in May it departed 10 minutes early.

Walk 14a
The Kefala Cave now has a securely padlocked entrance door - presumably it can now only be visited on an organized tour. 2011 - see above
Bob suggests that above Pithari it is helpful to know that the route to the gorge goes to the left of the power lines.

Walk 14b
The route from Kefala cave to Vlyhadia is reported as reasonably well waymarked except about halfway along where it drops towards the sea below a deep goat-pen.

My grateful thanks to Bob for these updates.
