For fascinating descriptions of trips to the Dolomites in the 1900s, read Reginald Farrer's The Dolomites, Cadogan Books. His descriptions are remarkable for both the differences and similarities with the situation today. We were able to locate Eritrichium nanum simply by following his narrative.
