Compare our walks and chose your resort

It is always difficult to describe to strangers the length of walks, without going into a lot of specific detail. A "five-mile walk", without context, is of little help if you don't know whether it involves a windswept ascent of 2000ft on a narrow, vertiginous path covered with loose stones, or is on a level, well-maintained soft earth track through sheltered woodland. Someone who usually walks in, say, Lincolnshire, may have a rather different concept of "hilly" to someone who walks regularly in Cumbria. Having led groups of average walkers, for 25 years, I have described the walks in individual books as short, medium or long according to how I think those groups would regard them. Walks that are, to some degree, above the average groups' comfort zone, are described as "challenging".

If still in doubt, look through the photos on this website, to get an idea of the terrain that is covered by the books.
