Walks in Northeast Thasos

Skala Potamias and Golden Beach Explore the green and rural northeast corner of the island, with routes that encompass the high summits of Ypsario and Profitis Ilias. This book describes twentyone walks based on the Skala Potamias and Golden Beach (Chrysi Amoudia) area, including the traditional village of Panagia, plus walks to or through Paleo Kastro, Megalo Kazaviti, Rahoni and Theologos.

Many of the walks are also possible from Thasos Town (Limenas), using the local buses.

Large-scale sketch maps of Golden Beach, Panagia, Potamia and Skala Potamias are included within the text.

The book is accompanied by a large-scale map of Northeast Thasos covering Skala Potamias, Golden Beach, Panagia, Potamia, Ypsario and Profitis Ilias. The double-sided colour walkers' map is at a scale of approximately 1:18800, 5.3cm:1km, 3.6in:1mile.

Climate shopThe book and map are available from the Climate shop in Golden Beach (near the campsite entrance). The shop also has a currency exchange, sells local wines, tsipouro and honey, and can offer boat/fishing trips.

Leatherlane shop sign The book and map are also available from Val Kyne at Leatherlane leather shop, on Thasos Town (Limenas) waterfront. The shop is at 18th-Oktovriou 84, next door to the very hospitable Alkyon Hotel café (whose lemon meringue pie is highly recommended).
