The

The Plakias region is approximately the area within a 10km radius of Plakias. Starting in the south-west and moving clockwise, the boundary for the plant list is roughly as follows: from Rodakino Beach to Kato Rodakino village and gorge; from Kato Rodakino to the summit and north cliffs of Mt Kryoneritis; from Kryoneritis to Alones village; from Alones to the summit of Armos (the hill north of Agios Ioannis village); from Armos to Agios Vasilios village; from Ag.Vasilios to the main Rethymno-Agia Galini road at Bale; from Bale to the Frati gorge; from there to Drimiskos village; from Drimiskos to Drimiskianos beach, and from there westward along the coastline to the starting point.
Over 165 species of birds seen in Plakias are listed, plus butterflies and mammals.
The plant checklist is a text-only A5 booklet with a card cover, listing species and subspecies recorded for the area. It is arranged alphabetically by and within families, with current taxonomy, scientific synonymy, English names where known, and endemic species marked as such.
